Mark Squires' E-Zine on Wine

My photo, Prague Castle Gardens
WARNING:
IN Internet Explorer6, the default is to "automatically
resize" photos to fit in the browser. This can harm
picture quality. Go to the TOOLS menu on your browser, then the
INTERNET OPTIONS menu selection, then the ADVANCED tab. Scroll down
to the MULTIMEDIA section and uncheck the box "enable automatic
resizing of pictures."
Of course, you may
also find that some of the pictures are too large to view
comfortably in a browser window. Best solution for the really large ones: for those with browsers that are up to date
that support this function, like IE 6, right click on the photo and
choose the menu item "zoom out" for
perspective. Also, you could download the photo to your hard drive, view them in
some viewing utility (like Vueprint at http://www.hamrick.com
where you can resize in stages with a touch of the page down key, and
do other manipulations with one touch as well. Another popular viewer
which has associated programs and more features, but is not quite so simple as a
viewer is Irfan. Irfan is
free. As monitors have
gotten larger and modems faster, the byte size and pixel size of the
new scans has increased. Improved scan quality is the result, but
there is a price to pay for everything. I like to upload "big" these days. It is
easy to make it smaller, but the reverse is not true and the ability to see
details in the larger shots makes it all worthwhile.
Many of the photos are included because they are interesting or beautiful. Hopefully, this is the majority. Admittedly, some are there just because I was there. They are best used as wallpaper. They just show what something is like, or they provide some atmosphere, like the roadsigns in Burgundy or the pictures of grapes in McLaren Vale.
